My happy place is on the beach and in the ocean. Toes in the sand, snorkeling, fancy cocktail…I’m in!

Back in 2006, my husband and I took our first trip to St. John. St. John is the smallest of the 3 U.S. Virgin Islands, which are located in the Caribbean Sea. We feel in love with the island!

This is a view of Trunk Bay. Seriously, no filter is needed. It is that beautiful!

So what do we love so much about St. John?

On St. John, the Virgin Islands National Park occupies more than half the island. Even the coral reef is protected. Like the reef you can see in this picture of Trunk Bay…protected!

For us, that means we can snorkel in waters that have a coral reef that thrives and hosts an abundance of fish by quantity and variety. National Park protection means that boat moorings on the island are limited, jet-skis are not allowed, fishing is regulated and limited to the local residents, and no cruise ships.

This translates to pristine beaches with an underwater world that will delight and amaze you!

St John’s forests shelter resident and migratory birds, including cuckoos, warblers and hummingbirds. The sea is home to hawksbill and green turtles.

St. John does not have an airport, so you fly into St. Thomas and take a ferry to St. John. Once in St John you can pick up your rental car or take an open air taxi to your lodging location. We always rent a house and the views do not disappoint!

Our days were filled with snorkeling, paddle boarding, fancy drink lunches, pool parties, and so much fun with family! Did I mention the resident donkeys?! One of my favorite island inhabitants!

Already dreaming of our next island getaway!
