When it comes to lunchbox staples, nothing beats the classic peanut butter and jelly sandwich. As a kid I had a PBJ at least every other day, and I never seemed to tire of it. It’s still my go-to lunch when I’m short on time and just want something quick and tasty.
I’ve learned the key to a truly great peanut butter and jelly sandwich is going stepping it up with the simple flavor combo. After playing around with making a prime PBJ sandwich I’ve learned a few tricks and settled on this recipe as the Ultimate Adult Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich!

PBJ Gone Gourmet – Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich Recipe
Time: 5 minutes Serves: 1
Ingredients
- 2 slices of firm white bread
- unsalted butter
- sea salt
- premium peanut butter ( I love Quality Creations Butter Toffee Peanut Butter, it’s AMAZING and people on Amazon go nuts over it, no pun intended )
- Elderberry Jelly or Strawberry Preserves (Purely preference, but if you’ve never had elderberry jam and love the taste of grape jelly, you’ve got to give it a try. This one is the best I’ve ever tasted– Mrs. Millers Elderberry Jelly)
Directions
- Lightly toast your bread
- Spread unsalted butter over one slice
- Add a thick layer of peanut butter over the buttered slice
- Spread jelly over the other slice of bread
- Sprinkle a dash of sea salt over the peanut butter
- Join your two perfect slices in holy peanut butter matrimony
- Enjoy your match made in heaven immediately, and then make another one
