I love bacon, and I apparently also breed bacon lovers. I’m not sure if science and medicine have made the direct connection yet between moms who eat bacon while pregnant and babies in the womb, but I’m pretty sure I caused my child’s addiction.

I first noticed his obsession with bacon when we were visiting family in my home state and met up for breakfast at the Cracker Barrel. If you’re unaware of the Cracker Barrel it’s a fine establishment of chain restaurants that cater to those who love the likes of Paula Deen, butter and good ol’ southern style home cooking. Their menu features things like peach waffles, biscuits and gravy and pancakes that rival small pizzas. I’m not knocking it though, it’s seriously the best breakfast you’ll ever eat. Just don’t dare ask what the calorie count is in anything.

Our ginormous breakfast plates arrived and my uncle offered my 1 year old son a strip of bacon. Being the undiscriminating eater that he is, he happily accepted the challenge. Before I could finish my motherly diatribe on how we rarely feed him processed foods he had downed the bacon and was lunging for more.

By the time breakfast was over he had managed to use his baby mind powers to seduce bacon from nearly everyone at the table. I’m quite sure had we not left the waitress would have fallen prey to his charms and brought over another full plate of pork.

While we all laughed at how my sweet little boy had turned into a rabid bacon devouring demon, I was secretly worried. What does this mean? Did my overindulgence of bacon while pregnant create this monster? Would this mean I’d have to hide from him in the morning, scarfing down my BLT in the bathroom? And what the hell was the next diaper going to look like after he’d just polished off half a pound of pig!

What’s that? Oh, oh ok! Ooooops…. I just realized , you are just hear to grab the recipe for making Candied Bacon and you want me to get on with it. Okay, okay! I’ll finish my savage bacon baby story another day….

Here’s the recipe, you greedy bacon hungry bastards!
